Bounce High

November 15, 2018 Victoria Boler

Game: Students form a circle and pass a ball from person to person by bouncing and catching around the circle. The ball hits the ground on the downbeat.

Alternative game: Students stand in a circle with one student in the middle who bounces and catches the ball on the strong beats. The whole class sings the first four beats. The student in the middle sings the last four beats and passes to a new student at “Shilo” (replace Shilo with new student name). The game begins again with a new student in the middle.

Tideo

September 9, 2018 Victoria Boler

Game 1:

Students form a circle with arms raised as windows. One student skips around the outside of the circle on phrases one and two. On phrase three, the student circles one of the other students by going through the windows on either side of the chosen student. The student circled joins the first student, and the game is repeated with the two skipping around the outside.

Game 2:

Formation: inner and outer circle, with partners facing each other

  • Every "Skip one window" - outside circle passes one person to the right

  • Every "Tideo" - pat, clap, clap partners hands

  • Every "Jingle at the window" - switch places with partner so outside circle is on the inside, and inside circle is on the outside.

Frog in the Meadow

July 18, 2018 Victoria Boler
Frog in the Meadow.jpg

Students create a circle with one student (the frog catcher) in the middle of the circle. One student is chosen to be the frog.

The frog catcher closes their eyes. Students sing the song and walk in a circle around the frog catcher as the frog hides somewhere in the room. When the song is over and the frog is hidden, the frog catcher searches around the room for the frog. The class sings with a louder volume when the frog catcher is close to the frog and a quieter volume when the searcher is far away from the frog.

Happy Miller

Happy Miller

Students stand in two concentric circles. One student (the Miller) stands in the middle. As they sing the song, students link arms and step around the circle. At the last word, grab, the outer circle stops moving while the inner circle takes a step forward to link arms with a new partner. As the inner circle moves forward, the miller runs to link arms with a student in the outer circle. The student left without a partner is the new miller.
